Mercy's Child is an inspirational story of how a sweet, naive country woman, Etta Wheeler, does not allow fear to stop her from sharing God's love in the "lion's den" of Hell's Kitchen in New York City. She quotes in the book, "Because being a Christian means you're saved, not safe...and if I must walk into hell to save heaven, so be it."
Once I started reading Mercy's Child, I couldn't put it down. I was so engrossed in Etta's journey through her struggles with fear, danger, doubt, and hopelessness at times. For me, she represents a true warrior, because every time she faces intimidation or bullying or is made to feel inconsequential, she refuses to tower in distress. Instead, she steps forward in faith and with courage and resolve. She even demonstrates that sometimes, as a warrior, you have to be patient. She says, "God will fight our battles for us. Sometimes, we just have to wait for His warriors to show up."
She represents the kind of people, the kind of warriors, we need to be today in our changing, chaotic, and hurting world. I am so glad Richard wrote this story now. It's an incredible MUST READ!
